Visit Nidri on the east side of Lefkada, the "Diva" of the island
The place of Nidri has the cosmopolitan air, that was given to him by Onassis when in 1963 he bought Scorpio island directly opposite. The statue of Onassis at Nydri beach shows the love of its inhabitants for the great Greek tycoon.
See Madouri and Skoprios
It is located only 17 km from the town of Lefkada and is located in the eastern part of the island. Nydri is built in a green plain along the sea.
In front of it is the islet Madouri with the neoclassical mansion of Aristotelis Valaoritis and behind you will find Scorpios of Onassis. You can get a boat tour or a day cruise and explore the beautiful area of the princes' islands (Pringiponisia).
Come to Nidri for a Sailing break
Nydri is also preferred by those who sail by boat in the Ionian Sea for a short break, on a safe and modern harbor.
The tourist infrastructure in Nydri is excellent with many accommodations (hotels, rooms, apartments, studios), restaurants and taverns, shopping and nightlife shops.
You can find a big market at the main road, and many restaurants and cafes to make a stop.
The Beach of Nidri
Nydri Beach is the most popular spot in the settlement, from where one can admire the sunrise.
Located on the east side of Lefkada, there is a huge coastline to explore on your way back to the north (Perigiali, Nikiana, Ligia) or go to the south and meet Vlicho, Poros and Mikros Gialos, Amousso, Afteli and go till Vasiliki.
The waterfalls
In Nydri, there are signs that will take you 3.5km to the waterfalls of Dimosari, one of the natural sights of the island.
The route is wonderful because it is surrounded by a plain of olives and plane trees. The path starts from the village of Rahis and will lead you to the first waterfall that will impress you with its steep cliffs and the natural cavity it forms.
Going up the stairs you will reach the second that is larger than the first one and will coincide with the sound of its water. If it's a hot summer day do not hesitate to dive into its cool waters.
Also opposite Nydri, in the bay of Vlychos is the chapel of Agia Kyriaki. You can reach it either by caique or by following the path that is 1 km after the village of Geni. The path is next to the sea.
From the chapel, you will have to overlook Nydri and the islet of Valaoritis, Madouri. On your way to the chapel, on the hill of the Nymphs, you will find the tomb of archaeologist Doerpfeld who had claimed that Lefkada is Homer's Ithaca.
Doerpfeld and Nidri
Archaeologist Wilhelm Doerpfeld, a supporter of the theory that Lefkada is Odysseus' Ithaca and his palace was located in Nydri, was found in excavations he made in the plain of Nydri at the site of Stenos, Tombs of the Early Helladic period, graveships and relics of buildings that are dated prehistoric times to Roman.
These findings suggest that Nydri has been inhabited since the prehistoric times.
The beach at Nydri has direct access from the hotels of the area and extends from Perigiali to Nydri.
The small beach of Passa, located just before Nydri, to the east of the town of Lefkada, is recommended for exploration.
