Kalamitsi Beach what is it? And some facts to know
The village of Kalamitsi in Lefkada has a long coastline with mainly three beaches, Kavalikefta, Avali, Gaidaros, and Megali Petra at 4.5 km away from the village.
The whole coast beneath Kalamitsi is 4 km approximately with a small white pebble, starting from Megali Petra going all the way to Gaidaros Beach.
The village itself is built upon the mountain (it is not a seaside village) but these 3 beaches, will definitely reward you with their wildness and calmness and will add a different taste to your holidays.
The road from Kalamitsi village to the beaches has some rough points, but approaching the west coastline at the end, you will find parking, canteens with snacks and drinks.
-
Megali Petra Beach and Kavalikefta are next to each other, so they are served by the same parking and the same canteen. The parking is quite small, so arriving here early (before 11:00 am) can be a privilege. Otherwise, you will have to park far away from the parking on that steep road. Megali Petra beach has those big rocks into the sea, that cover the beach and this sightseeing gives you a wild impression. Here you will also find umbrellas and loungers to settle down and enjoy your day at the sea.
-
Kavalikefta Beach is right next to Megali Petra beach but is quite a remote beach with nothing to serve you, so be prepared to come here, or make a stop at the canteen of Megali Petra. Kavalikefta is mainly a nudist and free camper's beach, but the waters and the whole sightseeing can be your perfect spot if you want silence on your holiday! The beach is not organized with umbrellas and loungers so you might need to bring your own.
-
Gaidaros Beach is situated to the north of Megali Petra and Kavalikefta and here you will find an oasis beach bar with some nice shadow and you can enjoy a drink or a meal with a great view, before walking down the stairs to the beach. The bar is jungle style and the stairs to the beach are amazing scenery! The beach is long enough, and you can find quite areas. The beach is not organized with umbrellas and loungers so you might need to bring your own.
What to watch out when coming to the beaches of Kalamitsi?
The first thing to take care of when visiting the beaches of Kalamitsi is your timing, especially during the high season!
You have to know that the only way to visit the beaches passes through the village of Kalamitsi, and it becomes very narrow inside the village.
So arriving there late in the day it is more possible to wast enough time stuck in the traffic, something you definitely want to avoid on your holiday!
Also, the beaches are looking west with a great sunset till late, but also with many hours of exposure under the sun, so drinks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and umbrellas have to be the no.1 on your list before visiting.
In the high season, on your way back from Kalamitsi in the afternoon, try to avoid Exanthia village, as Rachi Restaurant keeps the place very busy with a lot of traffic, and again you might be stuck.
Alternatively, make your way back either from Lefkada Town or via the mountain of Lefkada and Karya village (in case you are heading toward the east side). Pass through Karya village and make a stop at the wonderful square and have a nice dinner in budget!
Lefkada will definitely amaze you on every step!
So come join us for an unforgettable day in paradise!
